Last updated: 12 October 2026.

Most people know this as the **Ghostface AI trend**, after the masked caller in the *Scream* films. Zombie Hug does not make this photo or video. The prompts below work in free AI image tools.

## What the masked phone-call trend is

The trend is a photo, and sometimes a short clip, in a soft 90s or Y2K style:

- **The room:** a bedroom from the 90s. Pink or satin bedding, posters, fairy lights, warm lamp light.
- **You:** on the bed or the floor, with a big corded phone at your ear. You look relaxed, or you look at the camera.
- **The caller:** a figure in a white ghost mask and a black hooded robe. It stands in the doorway or behind a curtain, half in shadow and a little blurred.
- **The look:** film grain, soft focus, a slight flash, like a photo from a disposable camera.

The joke is the contrast. The room is cosy and pink. The figure in the door is the only spooky part.

### Where it started

The trend first grew on TikTok and Instagram Reels in late September 2025. Most people made it with Google Gemini and its image model, Nano Banana. Many posts use a remix of a song by Le Tigre. In October 2026 the posts are back.

## How to make the photo for free

You need one clear selfie and a free AI image tool that accepts a photo.

1. Choose a tool. People use Gemini (Nano Banana), ChatGPT image generation, and photo apps that have a "90s" or "Halloween" template.
2. Upload one photo of yourself. Use a photo with your face clear and in good light.
3. Paste one of the prompts below.
4. If the face does not look like you, add the line "Keep my face exactly as in my photo" and try again.
5. When you post it, turn on the AI label of the platform.

## Prompt 1: the classic doorway photo

```text
Use my photo as the reference for my face. Keep my face, hair and skin tone exactly as in my photo.
A dreamy 1990s bedroom at night: pink satin bedding, posters on the wall, fairy lights, a warm bedside lamp.
I lie on the bed holding a large vintage corded phone to my ear, relaxed, looking at the camera.
In the open doorway behind me stands a tall figure in a plain white ghost mask and a long black hooded robe, half in shadow, softly out of focus, watching.
Shot on a 35mm disposable camera with a soft flash, film grain, slightly faded colors, vertical 9:16.
No text, no logos.
```

## Prompt 2: two friends on the phone

Use photos only of adults who agree to it.

```text
Use the two photos as references. Keep both faces exactly as in their photos.
A 1990s bedroom with string lights and a cluttered desk. The two of us sit on the floor sharing one corded phone, laughing.
Behind the half-open closet door, a figure in a plain white ghost mask and black hooded robe looks out, blurred in the shadow.
Warm lamp light, film grain, disposable camera flash, vertical 9:16. No text, no logos.
```

## Prompt 3: the window version

```text
Use my photo as the reference for my face. Keep my face exactly as in my photo.
Night, a 1990s bedroom, rain on the window. I sit on the windowsill with a see-through plastic phone, the cord wrapped around my finger.
Outside, far behind the glass, a figure in a plain white ghost mask and black hooded robe stands under a street lamp, small and blurred.
Cool blue window light and a warm lamp inside, film grain, vertical 9:16. No text, no logos.
```

## If the tool refuses or the result is wrong

| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The tool refuses the prompt | Remove the film name and the character name. Describe the costume only: "plain white ghost mask, black hooded robe". |
| The face does not look like you | Use a front-facing photo with no sunglasses and no filter. Add "Keep my face exactly as in my photo" at the start. |
| The masked figure is too sharp or too close | Add "far in the background, small, softly out of focus". |
| The photo looks too modern | Add "1990s", "disposable camera", "film grain" and "faded colors". |
| You get a mask that copies the film design | Ask for a "plain white ghost mask". Do not post a copy of the film mask for money; it is a trademark. |

## How to turn the photo into a short video

Many posts are a few seconds of video, not a still. People take the finished photo into an image-to-video tool and ask for small movement. Keep the movement small: big movement often changes the face. Then add the sound in the app where you post.

```text
Slow push-in on the person on the phone. They twirl the phone cord and smile.
In the doorway the masked figure tilts its head once, slowly. Soft film grain. No text.
```

## The Halloween video Zombie Hug makes: the zombie hug

You upload two photos. One of you has turned into a zombie. The other one still knows that face. They hold each other, and then the video cuts back to a warm day years earlier. A Zombie Hug sample in the Halloween pumpkin field.

- Sample video: a man in a navy hoodie hugs a woman in an olive jacket in a pumpkin patch as leaves fall

- 15-second vertical video (9:16, 720p) with sound.
- 3 scenes: ruined street, pumpkin patch or marigold field.
- $6.90 for 1 video, or $12.90 for 3. 10 videos cost $34.90.
- Sign in with Google or an email code, then pay by card (on Stripe's page, also Apple Pay, Google Pay or Link).
- Most videos are ready in 5 to 10 minutes. We email you a private link.
- 1 free remake within 7 days if it does not look like you.

## Safety and consent

- Use your own photo, or a photo of an adult who agreed to it.
- Do not use photos of children or famous people.
- Do not send the photo to someone to scare them, and do not pretend it is real.
- Turn on the AI label when you post. TikTok has an "AI-generated content" setting. Instagram has an "Add AI label" setting.
- The masked character and the films belong to their owners. Make the photo for fun, not to sell.

## Questions

### What is the Ghostface AI trend?

### Which app do people use for the Ghostface AI photo?

Most people used Google Gemini with its Nano Banana image model. Others use ChatGPT image generation or photo apps with a Halloween template. Any tool that keeps your face from a photo can work.

### What is the prompt for the Ghostface AI trend?

### Why does Gemini refuse my prompt?

Some tools refuse prompts that name a film character, for copyright reasons. Remove the character name and the film name. Describe the costume only.

### Can I make it as a video?

Yes. Make the photo first, then animate it in an image-to-video tool with small movement. Zombie Hug does not make this video.

### Is it free?

The photo can be free. Gemini and ChatGPT give a number of free images. Zombie Hug videos are paid: $6.90 for one zombie hug video, or $12.90 for 3.

### Can I use a photo of my friend or partner?

Only if they are an adult and they agree. Do not use photos of children or famous people.

### What Halloween video can I make on Zombie Hug?
